Has practiced Pilates since 2000 and received her certification
through Power Pilates in 2003. She was first introduced
to Pilates as part of physical therapy to help rehabilitate
a chronic dance-related injury. Lynda holds a BA in
dance from Virginia Intermont College and has over 17
years experience as a professional dancer, dance teacher
and choreographer. She has studied dance with David
Howard, Paul Taylor and Bill T. Jones, among others,
and was a scholarship recipient at the American Dance
Festival. Lynda is a member of Maude Baum and Company
Dance Theatre, and has performed in St. Petersburg,
Russia, The Choreographers’ Asylum, and the Mosaic
Festival in London.
Angela Anthony:
BA Philosophy of Science, Boston University
Angela started studying the Pilates Method five years
ago. She knew immediately that this was the way the body
was meant to be used. She took Pilates classes five days
a week from as many different instructors as she could
find. She attended frequent workshops, read dozens of books,
and studied anatomy. After two years of learning she
became
Mat Certified by Power Pilates in NYC. Jeanette
Sommer accepted her as an apprentice in 2006. After
completing 600 apprentice hours Angela passed the
Basic System Exam and began her teaching. She has been
teaching at the Albany
Pilates Center for three years.
Kathleen M. Konyn:
Kathy first became interested in Pilates in 2001 after
reading an article about how this discipline had helped
others left with chronic pain following injuries. She
began her training in Pilates after many years of
suffering with chronic neck and arm pain due to
injury. She had pursued all traditional treatments but it was not until she began Pilates that
she found relief from her pain, increased flexibility
and strength, and a passion for Pilates. She became Mat
Certified through Power Pilates in 2005 and Level 1
certified with Jeanette Sommer through the Albany Pilates
Center, where she continues her education and training
for advanced certification. She joined the Albany
Pilates Center as an instructor in 2004, where she has
been teaching mat classes and private students in the evenings
and on the weekend — allowing her to pursue her passion
after completing a day at the office.
| All
the instructors at APC have successfully completed
a comprehensive training and certification program
entailing nearly 1,000 hours of seminars and apprenticeship
with rigorous written, oral and practical examinations
along the way. Our learning goes on beyond that
process through on-going and frequent Continuing
Education. Throughout that time, we become proficient
in not only teaching the exercises, but also in
understanding the philosophy and principles behind
correct alignment to facilitate core/center muscle
engagement through fluid movement and opposition.
By intensively studying and understanding anatomy
and bio-mechanics as they apply to Pilates, we
have the tools to create a balanced workout for
people of all ages and fitness levels, as well
as for special case clients (back, knee, shoulder,
neck problems, etc). By combining the skills of
having an eye for and recognizing correct and
incorrect body mechanics, as well as effectively
communicating the principles of Pilates Method,
we can create a truly personalized exercise program
that produces profound and lasting results. |
