Albany
Pilates Center is open 7 days a week.
Studio
Equipment
Fully equipped Pilates studio:
6 Reformers, 4 Cadillacs, 3 Wunda Chairs, High Chair,
Barrels, Physio-Balls, Magic Circles, Mats. The various
pieces of apparatus assist in strengthening and
releasing tightness in order to rebalance your muscles.
Classes
Please note that there is a 24 hour cancellation
policy for scheduled appointments.
Private: One- on-
one personal instruction involving all of the apparatus
as well as Mat work. We highly recommend beginning with
Private classes if you’ve never experienced Pilates’
Method. Learning where your own imbalances are as well
as becoming familiar with the exercises and the language
are crucial in order to derive the full benefits of
Pilates’ Method. A few Private classes will go
a long way in achieving more profound results in your
Semi-private or Mat classes.
Semi-Private (Duet and Trio):
After you’ve learned the fundamentals of using
your body correctly as it moves, we encourage you to
try classes where you’re paired in groups of 2
or 3 continuing to use the entire system. We make it
a point to combine clients that are similar in ability
and experience and your instructor continues to give
you the feedback you need to progress. The difference
is that the dynamic and energy changes, creating more
of a challenge. Also, the cost of the classes is less,
so you can do Pilates more often!
Mat: We conduct
Mat classes of various levels of experience and strength
throughout the week. Mat class asks you to feel the
resistance you found on the apparatus just as deeply
but without all the bells and whistles (actually the
springs and straps that create resistance). Now it’s
just you and your body…how well can you use it
and how deep can you go? We also have a Pilates on the
Ball class (using the physio-ball). Classes are limited
in size depending on level, with 10 maximum…so…no
cheating!…your instructor can still see you!
Workshops: Occasionally,
we hold workshops on various topics, i.e. stabilization
through pelvic alignment, or strengthening your upper
body, or Pilates for golfers. We try to make the workshops
relevant to what we feel our clients need to work on
and they will be posted. You do need to register for
these classes in advance.
PRICES: Class prices
vary from $50 -$12 per session (1 hour). Discounted
package rates available for those taking 2 or more classes
per week.
How
to Schedule
Mat Classes are
held at scheduled hours throughout the week at various
times and involving various degrees of experience and
ability so there will always be a class appropriate
and convenient for you. We do suggest that you call
to schedule your first class so that we can direct you
to the correct one for you. After your initial class,
you are welcome to join any class appropriate to your
level of experience. Occasionally a class may be closed
out, so it’s always good to check beforehand.
If any class is cancelled due to illness or weather
conditions, there will be a message to that effect left
on the voicemail.
Private and Semi-Private Classes
are conducted all day and are scheduled by appointment
only. Most of our clients eventually fall into a regular
schedule out of convenience, but after you’ve
reached a certain level of experience, you’ll
find there will usually be an opening in a semi-private
class suitable for you at short notice. As all of our
instructors are highly trained, you are encouraged to
take classes from various instructors.
Which classes to take? After taking your initial Private Class(es), you will
find that taking a combination of Private, Semi-Private
and Mat classes produces the fastest and best results.
Some clients prefer continuing with Private classes
only, others enjoy the dynamic of a Semi-Private class,
while some choose to take only Mat Class. As mentioned
earlier, all classes other than Mat incorporate the
use of the entire system and all apparatus---so, mix-and-match
to get the most out of your work-outs. We also encourage
taking classes with various instructors as they each
have their own unique qualities to contribute.
What to wear? Anything
you’re comfortable exercising in as long as it
isn’t too over-sized. We do need to have a sense
as to the quality of your movement. No shoes are needed.
We encourage you to stop by the studio at any time to
observe. Please let us know ahead of time so we can
guarantee that someone will be available to answer any
questions or to address any concerns you may have.

| All
the instructors at APC have successfully completed
a comprehensive training and certification program
entailing nearly 1,000 hours of seminars and apprenticeship
with rigorous written, oral and practical examinations
along the way. Our learning goes on beyond that
process through on-going and frequent Continuing
Education. Throughout that time, we become proficient
in not only teaching the exercises, but also in
understanding the philosophy and principles behind
correct alignment to facilitate core/center muscle
engagement through fluid movement and opposition.
By intensively studying and understanding anatomy
and bio-mechanics as they apply to Pilates, we
have the tools to create a balanced workout for
people of all ages and fitness levels, as well
as for special case clients (back, knee, shoulder,
neck problems, etc). By combining the skills of
having an eye for and recognizing correct and
incorrect body mechanics, as well as effectively
communicating the principles of Pilates Method,
we can create a truly personalized exercise program
that produces profound and lasting results. |
